Goat Cheese & Date Pizza Drizzled with Spicy Honey

Yes this pizza is just as delicious as it sounds. A garlicy white sauce base topped with pork Italian sausage, dates, red onions, goat cheese and all drizzled with a spicy honey. This pizza will change up your pizza expectations for the better.

I like to keep the goat cheese in the fridge right up until I’m assembling so that it will crumble easily. It does not matter whether you use homemade or store bought pizza crust. The ingredients below can make one large pizza or two small, just make sure to get the crust thin so that it’s not too bready.

The parmesan doesn’t add much flavor but contributes to a little browning on the top to give it a classic pizza look. You will want to pull the pizza out of the oven before the goat cheese browns and dries out too much.

Ingredients:

Pizza:

  • 1 Pizza dough
  • 6oz goat cheese
  • 1 Package of pork Italian Sausage (about 4 links)
  • 1 Red onion sliced
  • 8 Dates pitted and cut into quarters
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan

White Pizza Sauce:

  • 2/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup parmesan
  • 3 oz cream cheese
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Spicy Honey:

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tsp chili flakes

Directions:

In a small sauce pan warm the honey and chili flakes over low heat for about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally and remove from heat if it begins to bubble. Pour into a heat safe container and allow to cool.

Preheat oven to 475°.

Remove the sausage from the casing and cook in a skillet over medium heat, breaking into crumbles. When cooked through remove from heat and let cool.

Add all of the ingredients for the white pizza sauce into a sauce pan and stir over medium low heat until it is smooth and begins to thicken. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

Prepare the tray you will cook your pizza on by dusting with a little semolina or flour. I used a baking sheet with a silicone mat, but a pizza stone would be ideal.

Roll out pizza dough to the size of your baking tray and place it on it. Spread the white pizza sauce evenly over the whole thing. Top with the pork sausage, chopped dates, sliced red onions, crumbled goat cheese, and finally the grated parmesan.

Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes, ovens will vary so keep an eye on it to make sure it is not over or under baked.

Remove from oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before drizzling liberally with the spicy honey and slicing.
